On our termly courses you can make anything you want and get the help you need with any project: there is no set curriculum. If you are a complete beginner then we have a few starter projects such as a lined tote bag or zipped cushion cover that involve lots of useful techniques.
We cater for all abilities and and the mixed ability classes allow you to learn and gain inspiration from each other in a friendly and fun environment.
Classes have no more than 6 students and include lots of personal attention and guidance.
Our professional designer, used to nurturing and encouraging your creativity will help you realise your potential and give you advice for the future.
All equipment, modern sewing machines, patterns & small amounts of fabrics* are included in the fee. *not supplied in drop in or taster sessions.
If you have your own sewing machine, but a bit unsure of what it can do then you can bring it along and learn on your own machine. You can make anything! from party bags, children's school costumes or a total furnishing revamp for your home, just let us know your ideas and we'll help you achieve them..
If the term has already started, please enquire as to whether we have a space for you; students work at their own pace so you can join up anytime! You can always come for a one-off taster session, just ask and we'll see if we can fit you in.
Courses run term time and the current dates are below. Courses are paid in full and in advance of the course starting to secure your place. You can pay by bank transfer, cheque or cash.
Venue: The Sewing Club, Beach Creative, Studio 4, Beach Street, Herne Bay, Kent CT6 5PT.
Since 2007 we have tutored on the following:
Dress-making including understanding pattern instructions
Soft furnishing including blinds/curtains
Fabric screen printing
And all the exciting variations in between!
If you are a complete beginner we can structure your time by making 2 projects, for example an A-line skirt and the sleeveless button-back top as featured in the book that accompanied the third Great British Sewing Bee series. Both projects will include basic techniques such as cutting out, seams, hems, inserting a zip, buttonholes, facings and understanding fit. It will be an intensive 6/7 weeks where you can make 2 lovely garments showcasing all that you've learnt. Alternatively if dress-making is not your thing then you can make a useful tote bag and zipped cushion cover which cover lots of exciting techniques too!
